The Proposal: Describing your semester's work
The Proposal is the only major assignment you'll write this semester for which I'm your audience. The Proposal is your blueprint for the rest of the semester's work: you'll describe your project audiences in detail, your initial research into the problem, and begin to preview your solutions. You'll also discuss your primary and secondary research -- both what's been completed and what is yet to come. The proposal is an important document for you, as it will outline your coming work, and an equally important document for me, as I'll use it in the grading of your final project
Conference Worksheet
Please download this worksheet, complete it on your computer, and save a copy for yourself. You'll bring a printed copy to me during our conference; you must also bring either your laptop/tablet or a second copy to our meeting so you can take notes on my feedback and suggestions.
Conference Worksheet Audience DescriptionA key component of your final project will be your Audience Description. As you are identifying your topic, you'll select three audiences -- primary, secondary, and tertiary -- for your final project. You'll continue to revise and refine your Audience Description throughout the semester.
Proposal Examples
Posted on our ELMS site are student proposals written in past semesters. These are not meant to be templates; rather, I'd like you to think about the type of research, interviews, and critical thinking you'll be doing about your own topics in the coming weeks. You'll find the samples posted in the Assignments section on ELMS.
Proposal Draft Worksheet
This is the draft worksheet you'll be using on Tuesday & Thursday -- read prior to Tuesday's class.
